RE ZRO® has once again been recognised at the Design & Innovation Award, with our back protection integrated into the award-winning Deuter Attack 16.
For us, this isn’t about a first. It’s about consistency, and what that consistency represents.
Recognition at this level, more than once, signals a shift. Material innovation is no longer sitting quietly in the background, it is starting to define the products themselves and the standards they are judged against.
The Attack 16 is a clear reflection of that.
Developed in close partnership with Deuter, the project set out to move beyond incremental updates and rethink what modern protection should deliver. Not just in how it performs on impact, but in how it fits into a much bigger picture.
At the core of the pack sits RE ZRO® back protection, designed to be lightweight, flexible and comfortable enough to disappear into the ride, while still delivering the level of impact performance riders expect. It moves naturally with the body, performs consistently across conditions, and removes the stiffness that has historically been accepted as part of protective gear.
What makes this product stand out, though, goes further than performance alone.
This is a back protector built with its entire lifecycle in mind. Using RE ZRO® materials and powered by TOTO-TOA® technology, it is designed to break down in landfill conditions at the end of its life, addressing a part of the product journey that has been overlooked for far too long.
For decades, protective equipment has been engineered for a single moment, the crash, with very little consideration given to what happens after. That approach no longer holds up, and it is exactly where RE ZRO® is focused.
We are developing materials that do not force a compromise. Protection that performs when it matters, while also reducing long term environmental impact through considered design and end of life solutions.
Alex Yellowley, Co-Founder of RE ZRO®, said:
“Recognition like this matters because it shows that performance and responsibility are no longer separate conversations. We are working with partners like Deuter to build protection that riders trust, while also addressing what happens to that product at the end of its life. We are proud to play a part in the Attack 16. It is a clear example of what can happen when brands commit to pushing development forward together.”
RE ZRO® exists to enable brands to build better products through better materials. We are not the final product, but we are a critical part of how those products perform and how they are made.
Awards like this bring that contribution into focus. They reinforce the role materials play in shaping the future of protection and highlight the importance of designing with both performance and responsibility in mind.
This is not a one-off moment. It is part of a continued trajectory, as we expand our material platform and work with partners to raise the standard across the industry.
